What are the pros and cons of Compression Shorts for long distance runners? When should/can they be used, workouts, longruns, normal runs? I run 14 miles a day, 142lbs, 5'10'', waist size 28-30'', any suggestions as to what kind I should buy?
Thanks

"Overall, there were no performance benefits when using the compression garments."
There are a bunch of studies out there that say that compression shorts/tights/socks, etc... don't really offer any positive physiological benefits.
compression socks > cotton socks anyday
Compression shorts are mostly physically pleasing, keeps everything in place and prevents chafing. Its also been said to increase bloodflood but that could be a narrow case study.
There are no real cons to wearing compression shorts unless you're uncomfortable in them.
Ok thanks guys. Does anyone recommend a certain pair of compression shorts? Winter is coming up, so maybe some that are better with the cold? Keep the input coming, thanks.
I wear these, then wear them to work.

I wear the CW-X Pro compression shorts for all of my running. I don't think they help me run any better, but they are way more comfortable than any loose short I've ever worn. I have a torn hip labrum and the compression seems to keep things "together" more. I'll never wear loose shorts again.
Yeah I've started to realize that there is no help in wearing them. But I would like to try them for comfort. I'll look into the CW-X Pro's. Thanks
I like these. A little thicker material for cooler weather and has a good elastic band at the thigh so it won't ride up the leg.

I second these. I don't know about performance benefits but I think they're comfortable. If it gets a little cold you can wear them instead of full tights and wind doesn't get up your shorts to your noogies. I end up wearing them unless it's below 20 degrees or so.
Do any of you guys get chafing from the inseam of the compression shorts? I may buy the nike filament tights, or the CW-X Pro's. I can't decided. Anybody else have input?
I still don't know the difference between compression and tights. But I have some guys on my team that wear Nike tights. Bump.
I've always like the adidas supernova

The Zensah compression shorts don't chafe. Hugely more comfortable on long runs - at some point, that is a "performance benefit."
Their all-the-way-to-the-knee length is rather unflattering, though.
Those cheap $20 6 inch asics lycra shorts are the best. Holds your sack up and is really light and the freedom of movement is awesome.
I like the http://www.raceready.com/ to prevent chafing in ultras along with some Vaseline. I think their seams are better placed than other brands I've tried.
Bump
I like CEP compression socks and 2XU half tights.
I never get chafing from the CW-X Pro shorts and I wear them for all of my runs (max out at about 110mpw FWIW).

I would try the CWX. I was not a believer in tights/compression until I tried the CWX brand. I think you can feel a big difference in the quality of the tight over the Nike one someone posted and the Adidas ones always seem to stretch out pretty quick.
