Any suggestions are helpful...
I'm a high-arched runner but pronate fairly significantly on my right side. I have wide feet so am limited to shoes that have availability in wide.
I've been fit twice - put into Asics Gel Foundation which I ran on (bought same model every 4-6 months!) for a couple of years with only some minor pain occasionally occurring under the ball of the foot that doesn't pronate. Found them kind of heavy and clunkish. Also had some lower back pain - attributed to that to bad habit of not stretching enough and general old back issues from college rugby.
Tried to work on improving speed and a new store put me into Saucony ProGrid Guide. Loved the cushioning and they felt lighter. Really pushed training and managed to increase back pain, then extending it into leg. They said it's SI Joint Dysfunction which I currently still battle and treat with PT and such.
I was visiting my a friend who's a Ph.D. in biomechanics, focusing on sports med and he thought the motion control shoes could have made the back issues worse by over-correcting. I thought that the extra support was something I should go back to, but discussions with him on the running injuries and such have left me confused.
So, high arches, heavy over-pronation (seems to be mid-late stage), and lower back/glute problems (only on side that overpronates.) Should I go back to motion control? Stick to stability? Have gone back to two great stores and both fitted me very differently again. Sorry for the novel, but any thoughts are appreciated.
