I run all of my mileage on rural caliche roads (no other option). It's pretty nice when they are smooth from being driven on, like a nice flat trail, but when the county dumps out new rock they can be terrible for a long time. Stepping on large pointy rocks becomes inevitable and they roll under your feet. Eventually the ball of my foot gets bruised to the point where every step hurts.
So my quastion, what are some good shoes that can offer protection against something like this? I normally wear Asics numbus or something similar, so cushioning is not the issue.
