Another insecure geek distance runner that has to berate other events to make themselves feel better. At least LRC is predictable.
Ever tried to throw the javelin? Did it go more than 20m? (probably not...) Do you know how ridiculously difficult it is to throw 90m? Even 50m? At least some collegians will make it past the first round of the 15/5k, won't happen in the faux Olympic javelin. (nevermind it was an original Olympic event either)

i think the OP means the athletes who might be their country's only representative or an athlete who stands absolutely no chance of medalling. i don't think they are calling javelin throwers "faux athletes". they just happened to pick an event that's less physiologically taxing as say, running hard for 13 minutes.
personally, if i made the olympics in any distance event, i'd be all about the party knowing that my exit would be swift (if there were rounds). my college self would hate to run the men's marathon, knowing that i couldn't goof off until after the olympics ended.
