He would be my pick, but AK has baffled us before, right?
Probably Haile Gebreselassie. He may be over his peak but he is still a great runner and has done so much for the counry. Go Haile!
Didn't they already name the alternate when they made the selection?

Haile, is Ethiopian...
I'm not sure, but I don't recall that being the case. Seems like they should have, though. Maybe they picked one, but never announced, and tomorrow's announcement will just be a formality.
So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.
GEOFFREY MUTAI STILL HAS A CHANCE!!!! YES!!!
I think he's got plenty of time to be ready, too.
Perhaps Renato Canova can speak about this?
My worry is that AK wouldn't want to be embarrassed about not picking him on the team the first time around. If they pick him now and he destroys everyone then their incompetence is more evident than usual.
I hope I'm not getting Italian-trolled.
Either one of the Mutais or Makau would be fine by me but if they pick someone else (like jonathan maiyo) I'll barf.
have the bag at the ready. There is nothing remotely predictable or logical here with these Kenyan officials- most of the time.
What is Wayne's World, Alex?

This is true. Current odds on who the brilliant minds at AK will select:
Asbel Kiprop 30%
Bro. Colm O'Connell 25%
I'll Have Another 20%
Tergat 7%
Wanjiru 5%
Levins 5%
E Mutai 5%
P Makau 2%
G Mutai 1%

So, the source is an obscure blog?
So far, the only person reporting this is Alberto Stretti. I wonder if Canova is his source, but asked not to be named, given his relationship with Mosop? Stretti seems reputable enough that other US running writers have re-posted this news elsewhere. I guess we'll know for sure by tomorrow at this time.

If they pick him, Makau will complain. But I am with you in that Geoffrey is better than Makau(and maybe anybody else right now) in non paced marathons. If they pick Emanuel, that would still be ok because he is a consistent performer, getting better with every competition.
Each of those top six guys had a legitimate argument for being selected. I felt like Geoffrey had one of the best, but AK obviously disagreed for whatever reason. I think it would be awesome for him to be selected, then show up and blow away the field like Wanjiru did in 2008!
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
