Hopefully there will be a video. Great achievement.
He ran faster than Alan Webb..
they had videos last year so hopefully there will be a video of the race
Whiteman's 3:58.79 equates to 3:45.7 Mile age-graded - track performance of the year! Only three men have run under 3:46 for the Mile - El Guerrouj, Ngeny and Morceli. And he won the race!

be careful talking about age-grading on here:)
Off topic, but it's funny how they list Anne Kesselring as one of the top US times of the year. Pretty she's still German, isn't she?
not surprised, but still: wow!
that tells you that age-grading ain't exactly an exact science.
Lagat will still be cracking 4 when he's 57 years old.
have not seen results or anything on twitter
shame he didn't beat Coghlan's time - but a superb performance nonetheless
What the mind of man can achieve he/she can achieve with a positive mental attitude.
I was at the Music City Distance Carnival where Whiteman made history. Tall and tough competitor. Told me he just wanted to win and beat people last night. The mile gunned off about 10:30 under a full moon and cool conditions. Epic moment. He ran 1:48 recently and was on the British Olympic teams for Atlanta and Sydney. Running in Indiana 800 in about 10 days.

"Home @ 4am after sinking a few beers, 3.58.79 4 the mile tonight, great meet and conditions but running last 500 solo means can go quicker!!"
Rad. Opens 2012 one second slower than Centro, and winning!
The Man in action this winter:
outside chance of making the Olympic team if he can find a few seconds, 3:35 ish might be enough looking at last and this year.

Has there been any male 40+ runners in recent times who have competed in an Olympic middle distance event?
Tergat?

That's just crazy that his age-graded time is a full six seconds faster than his personal best from his prime. Normally, these age-graded times are spot on what an athlete was or would be capable of at their best. I've never heard of an age-graded time being outrageously faster than an athlete's overall personal best. I guess he's just gotten that much better.
But seriously, awesome race. Just leave the "grading" to sports like synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics.
