I bet she gave the kid a tugger.

Not everything is nasty.
Ms. Bowerman has been arrested for an improper sexual relationship with a male student at her new school.

"Melissa Bowerman, the daughter-in-law of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman and head track and field coach at Madras High School, was arrested Monday on sex abuse allegations involving a 17-year-old boy on the team.
State police got a tip that Bowerman, 43, "was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a juvenile male," they said in a news release. She has been coaching the team for two years, police said.
Troopers arrested Bowerman at her home in Fossil. She was taken to the Jefferson County Jail in Madras on suspicion of second-degree sexual abuse, luring a minor, second-degree online sexual corruption of a child and contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. The first three accusations are felonies and the fourth is a misdemeanor."
This is almost hard to believe on so many fronts. All from the Register Guard.http://registerguard.com/rg/news/local/31901704-75/bowerman-police-coach-track-bill.html.csp1) Take a look at her mug shot:http://goo.gl/ucqoeKA picture is worth a thouands words.2) She's involved in some way with men that are 58 years apart. She's 43. She was arrested for acts involving a 17 year old, but did you see how old Bill Bowerman's son is that she's married to? Jon Bowerman is 75. 3) She was hired as a high school track coach despite being fired from a previous job for taking a track athlete to prom.

Two years ago, Bowerman was dismissed from the Condon/Wheeler high school track team when she escorted a boy from the team to the Condon High School prom, The East Oregonian newspaper reported at the time. She was a volunteer coach at the school.
How is that possible? That's how schools get lawsuits.
The interesting twist to this story is the great success they had promoting running at that high school.

Here are my thoughts.
1) She probably thinks, "Hubby is allowed to cavort with me and I'm 32 years younger than him. Why can't I drop down 26 years?"
2) How many high fives do you think the 17 year old boy got at school? Tagged the track coach and maybe even got some free Nike gear out of it.
Did anyone see the deadspin article? Her husband was irate when she was accused at the other job. He's the naive one.

I personally don't see why this should be criminal. I mean it is inappropriate for a teacher or coach to do this with a high school aged student. She should lose her job. I think it is stupid to prosecute such conduct.

I see your reasoning as the guy is 17 and likely almost 18 (is he 18 now that school is out?), but I guess you have to have a line that cannot be crossed. At one time or another, we decided it was 18. Personally, I think there needs to be some common sense in place. It is ridiculous that if an 18 year old boy is having sex with a 17 year old girl (I know this would never happen. Ever.) and she decides he is a jerk, she can have him prosecuted the same as if he raped a 7 year old. Where is the common sense?
In this scenario, the parents are entrusting the coach to be a mentor, protector, etc. If it were a 40-year-old man and my 17-year-old daughter, I'd want him prosecuted. I think as a culture we need to have some protective laws, but again: we need some common sense.
Sweet lord.

What?
It is generally not illegal for an 18 year old to have sex with a 17 year old -- Romeo and Juliet laws.

I hope you're right. A week or so ago, someone on this site posted a link to an article about a mom who was upset that her daughter was a lesbian with another girl in her class, so she waited for the girlfriend to turn 18 and then pressed charges. Seemed really messed up. I'll see if I can find it.
Depends so much on the state. Age of consent in my state is 16. There are exemptions for "close-in-age" relationships.
Personally I think 16 is a better place for age of consent than 18. If the state law is 18, while I think that is silly, the teacher should be prosecuted just like any other person violating that law.
Some states have enacted specific criminal statutes for teachers in such situations--so that a 30 yr. old wouldn't be subject to prosecution for a relationship w/ a 17 yr. old, unless he/she was a teacher. That is mainly what I was commenting about was silly. If the student is over the age of consent in the state, whatever that is, then the relationship is still inappropriate and the teacher/coach should lose her job. I think such behavior is no longer criminal, however.
Wow, I thought this was a bump from the last time she got in trouble.
I think we have a pattern here....Mrs. Bowerman needs to keep in her pants.
It's too bad she seemed like a good coach really turning a poor program around.
Does anyone else here not believe in age of consent laws?
Love knows no boundaries--no age, gender, etc. seriously what's wrong with a 45 year old and a 12 year old hooking up as long as both parties consent?
Next you'll just say it's sick and they should be thrown in jail.
Guess what? That was the exact attitude towards homosexuality in the 50s.
I eagerly await for our society to truly accept everyone for who they are--some people are attracted to younger people, and it's not their fault.
Not a troll by the way.

Actually, didn't old(er) guys marry 12-14 year olds in the Middle Ages?
It seems we've moved beyond that.
It seems like the cougars are more prevalent with each passing year.
Typical oregon shenanigans. Bowerman was a cheater. NOPe is notorious for, well, you know, cheating. nike was founded on the premise of exploiting pre-teen children. Too many nike and oregon athletes have been busted for doping to keep track of.
What, precisely, does Mrs. Bowerman need to keep in her pants? I should think there's been quite enough of THAT.
