Hello everybody,
I am 47, running from a few years, current training 5-6 hours of running plus 3-4 hours of swimming and other aerobic exercise (spinbike, cross-country sky machine) per week. Each week includes two track workouts and 2 weights sessions (weighted bulgarian split squat, weighted lunges, leg curl, calf press). PB 4:58 (1500) and 5:20 (mile). Never raced the 800 but I would like to give it a try this spring.
I was wondering if I should buy a pair of spikes for 800-1500 races and workouts with repetitions at 1500m speed or faster (currently I use racing flats in these situations). Do spikes really give an advantage for a mediocre runner like me in 800-1500 races? If so, how many seconds could I gain with them? Should the potential gain in time be balanced against increased injury risk?
Thanks for any advice.
