Anyways, she won by 7 minutes.

That is crazy fast. I've never heard of her before. What did she do in XC?
This is interesting.
Her success this past year, both in the Grand Prix event in Boston and now this gives hope to every high school runner stuck in a less then perfect situation at their school.
I would love to know more about her competitive situation. For example, she doesn't appear to have run XC or track this year for Phillips Andover...in fact, perhaps never. (?) And the combination of some fast times when she was an underclassman, a road race this summer, and the before mentioned Grand Prix and the NE USTAF XC got her on everyone's radar. Fascinating.
Seriously, if anyone has any further information it would be appreciated.
Bright focused knows what she's doing
Working thru - runs 4:51
finishes 13th in USATF womens 8k 28:26

Who's working with/coaching her? She definitely has a plan
and its working
Gov't Birth Certifcate ? Green Card ? U.S. Passport ? or US State Drivers License.
She's from the deepest darkest wilds of central Connecticut, Farmington, an area sooooo afluent that they dont have time to record the birth of their offspring
Did find she may have her own theme song
"She placed thirteenth in the 8k Open Division USA National Cross Country Championship, running a 6k split fast enough to have won the Junior 6k Division."
WHOA. This girl is going to be GOOOOOD. Stanford is getting a gem. Kroeger, Cuffe, Tonn....add in Hatton and they might be in the running for the NCAA XC title.

Respectfully, I’ll argue Stanford does not do a good job with the level of runners they get, especially on the women’s side. And having Patti Sue as your coach isn’t the best thing that could happen to you (a Brooks Johnson training method disciple).
I saw Cayla win the NE USATF XC Championship in Franklin Park last fall. She certainly could be a very good one.
Unfortunately, "right-o" is "RIGHT-ON," on this one!
So many questions.
Does anyone know what she did before this year in terms of times?
Also what did she do in the fall? Did she run Nike or Foot Locker ( I googled and saw her as an entry for nike regional but not in the results.)
Who is coaching her. Just having someone run the senior race and not the junior race at USAs seems so outside the norm but so smart. So many HSers think they are so so good when in reality, they are just good for their age.
Cayla Hatton is relatively new on the scene...ran 4:51 in first mile since fourth grade indoors. Just won the Snowflake Invitational 10,000m against collegians in 33:17, an Olympic Trials 'B' Standard. And just a high schooler...headed to Stanford next year. Pretty impressive time.

What does this even mean? I don't think great high school runners think they are better than they really are any more than good road runners think they are better than they really are. High school kids usually go to college and open meets because they know better comp will pull them along. They usually don't go to show some pro runners whats up.
Wow. 16:38 twice in a row?! That time would normally win Nationals alone! Impressive.

Unless you're Alan Webb
Stanford doesn't have the BEST program for development (I'd feel a little better about her going to Georgetown, Villanova, Oregon, etc.), but they've done well with Kroeger, Tonn, and Cuffe (so far). All have improved a TON.
Looks like Cayla Hatton was an age group star and national champion but had a couple years off due to injury. This is also her first year running full-time (previously played other sports). What a talent. won by 7 MINUTES. Incredible.

I have found the actual results:
http://www.colby.edu/athletics_cs/wtrack3-31-12.cfm
I mean it was probably run in pretty bad weather - look at the other times. Some decent runners didn't run good times.
If it was a lap short, she'd still have run 34:40 which is still really good and would make the 1st round of the NCAAs.
Was anyone there? It looks like Harvard was. I'll email their coaches.
Considering her mile times, it seems safe bet that she has maybe on or two fast-twitch fibers in her entire body. Future marathon star.
