Good idea, poor execution. But we'd take a WC or Olympic final out of Webb at this point, wouldn't we?
Wow, never seen that before. Definitely a head scratcher.
Ah yes the age old tactic of throwing in a 12.3 100m in the middle of a 1500.
I forgot how much of a BOSS Rui Silva was. One of my favourite runners ever.
I wonder if Ventolin has seen this!
Wow, does he have trouble counting?
Thinking he'd heard the bell.
If he had a sustained drive from there on in, would have been hella impressive. Instead, it makes him appear as a fool.
Raczko must've been pissed as all hell watching Webb make that move. I like to imagine it was planned though, just because that would be hilarious.
That field was so doped. That's why Webb didnt' make it. Ramzi are you f'ing kidding me?! He should receive a lifetime ban.
think webb was trying to do what he did a year before in the olympic trials but there is a lot of difference between a doped up Ramzi and Michael Stember....
He would have blown up the final lap if he had tried to sustain that.
The only way to do that in a 15 is to do it on the curve with less than 600 to go. Alan went about 150 too early and he did it on a straight.
He also slowed down after he did it, which makes it completely pointless.
And it only took you SEVEN YEARS to realize that this might have been a bad choice?
I like how after a 12.3 second 100m the one commentator says "I'm not sure he can sustain that." It might be pointing out the obvious to say that Webb might not close in 1:38.4 for the last 800m.
He wanted to make it a pure guts race for 100 meters.
That's the tragedy of Webb. Even if he managed to get into world class shape again, he'd race like a mongoloid.

What other races did he make mistakes in?

He watched Without Limits the night before and took the lessons of Pre way too literally :(

Pretty sure he choked in the '04 1500m Olympic first Prelim. Missed the cut by .11 and finished 9th in his heat. In '07 WC 1500m, he was either first or second for the almost the entire race and got destroyed in the final 100m. This is the same season he beasted Baala in Paris in the final 50m to run a 3:30.
I love Webb but he chokes when it comes to big pressure races, specifically WC/Olympics. His most defining race, in my opinion, the 3:46, happened in a rinky dink venue, with no names and running the race by himself.
