That is all.
That is all.
Agreed, he was great. Where has he been all my life??
not bad at all. he got some numbers wrong and stuff but you cant necessarily blame him for that. hope he does more races in the future
He made a 2 man/woman race exciting to watch. I just hate that the other announcer always seems to be a gosh, golly gee whiz I know nothing about running.
The only decent contribution he had was when he said, "This isn't just jacking the treadmill up to six."
He does a great job of addressing the "common questions" that people who don't follow the sport might have without sounding condescending or pandering like Larry Rawson often does. Todd is also about as much eye candy for the ladies as Carrie Tollefson is for guys, which doesn't hurt.
Well, it helps if you know what you're talking about.
I met Todd briefly after he won the USA x-c championship at Franklin Park in Boston years ago. There was no way you could miss his passion.
If you bring that level of enthusiasm to any endeavor it shows.
Very hot and does a good job at broadcasting comparable!!!!

You hit it. He was passionate and you could tell he loved it. His insight was great. His delivery? It was interesting for us guys who know and love running AND it brought it to the level of the person who is just a casual viewer.
NBC bring him on for the Olympics!!

is there a way to petition NBC requesting todd as a distance commentator?

Prolly just a bunch of emails. The problem is, they'd think that since the "masses" want that it must be wrong, so they would use their "expertise" to bring us a lousy show and then talk about bad ratings.
Quite true. The Jack Donaghy character wasn't made up out of thin air.
He was doing something much of the broadcast that really bugged me. The course, as I understand it, had been changed for this year's race. Williams kept talking about runners being on course record pace...they had to be on course record pace...it was a new course. I believe he should have been saying "event record pace," since anything was going to be a new course record, but would not have been a record for the event.

Yeah, but that's getting picky.
BUT- he was overall great. Now, I'm watching a Formula 1 race. The leader has a 12 sec lead 1/2 way through, that's an eternity in F1. But, the announcers are making the race interesting. They're focusing on the "chase pack"- the race for 5th, 8th, even back in the pack. There are three knowledgeable commentators (and one is a former national class marathoner). They make every race interesting. Toni Reavis, Williams and Eyestone or a woman to help with the women's race could do a decent job with ANY road race.
The F1 race is on cable (speed) who needs major networks?
One problem with running is they only focus on the leaders. There are secondary places, in F1 they get points, maybe running needs something like that.
What I liked was his ability to bring his own experiences into the mix where it made sense to the normal viewer! The story about what some elites do on race day was good stuff!
I always love to hear Williams speak. In all his online interviews he always tells a great story. Love that man.
Yes, TWILL is exciting and knowledgable plus he has the gift of gab. who knew?? They have had SOOO many terrible commentators over the years. I hope TWill gets a shot at the Olympics. He would be awesome. Plus he was a Vol when Tennessee was feared. My man.
As long as we are recommending announcers. Dan O'Brien and the other announcer were awesome at the USATF indoors. He knew about nearly all the athletes in the sprints and field events and could talk about the events like a coach. He was chatty without being a windbag. His co-announcer was excellent at reporting the event and asking good questions.
I thought he did a pretty good job as well, but it was not surprising. One of the most things is to have someone who understands the ins-and-outs of elite distance running, which perhaps there are quite a people on this board who could fill that bill, but it is important to have personality and look good on camera, which is perhaps a bill very few people on this board could fill.
Did Asics sponsor the broadcast?
I have appeared on television numerious times.
