Wow
Wow
Yeah, 1:52 through 800!! Needed to win by like 21-22 seconds and he did. That was really cool.
Outstanding!
And thanks to LRC for providing the link to the meet schedule/results--I've been following the hept throughout the weekend, and noticed Beach steadily working his way upward in the standings.
Good for him--and best of luck outdoors!
Very impressive! Curious... who held the previous 1000 record and the time?
he broke his own record of 2:27
Thank you. I knew he had run a "record" time before, but didn't realize it was the WR.
insane finish, so impressive.
Yes, real impressive. He makes the Hep real interesting to the end. He was 4th after 6 events...
BTW: who here has run faster than 2:23.6? I start. Not me...
10th on the collegiate list this year. 9th is Jeremy Rae. About 1 second off the Duke school record and about 3.5 seconds off the all-time collegiate top ten.
The only collegians who have scored more than 6138 are Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee.
An absolutely unreal run. Phenomenal.
I actually didn't realize how amazing 6,138 points is. That's the 7th best performance in US history!!! Most of the guys ahead of him are obviously not competing anymore.
He is improving very fast in substantially all events (especially the PV). Can he make the US team this summer? But the more interesting question. Can he run sub 3:50 in the 1500?

It would almost be impossible to make the USA team this year becasue Clay, Hardee and Eaton stands in his way...they are the 3 best in world. Also, a full dec is a slightly different animal.
Clay is 32 yo. Is he still healthy and in good shape?
Anyone know where one can find a video of Beach's 1000 meter run?
Beach is turning out to be quite a studly multi guy. I don't know how much his success in the Hep will translate to the Dec, but he's made a name for himself.
Didn't he almost quit the multi after his freshman year in college?
I was concerned about what kind of time he could do after he made three heights past his PR in the PV but I thought he would run bout 2:27 and that it would be incredibly tight in the final total (would have depended on the fractions, I think).
To get an appreciation how well these two did, both he and Cato had enough points to place second behind Eaton at the IAAF Indoor World Championships.
kinda but not really not smart wrote:

I don't think so. I think the letsrun crowd was talking about him being a mid-distance guy after his fast 4x800 leg, but I think Mr. Beach has always been committed to the multis.
I'm confident that he'll continue to improve in the decathlon. He does pick up 2 additional throws, but he also gets the 400, which is a strong event for him.
He was already at 8084 pts in 2011. His shot was at 12.08m last year and he is now at 12.80m.
He has improved across the board. It is probably safe to assume that since he is now faster at 60m and 1,000m, that he should now also be faster at the 400m.
We should also assume that he is now better at the discus and the javelin, given his improvement at the shot.
8,400+ this summer?

The dec is like a relay in that you just can't add up PRs.

Considering he just PRed in 6 out of 7 events maybe you can.
