I wonder what Ritz would do if any of the top 3 were injured and gave up their spot at the last minute. I figured that it would more likely be Meb or Abdi though, not Hall....and there is still a ton of time of course.
said he's checking on the plantar fasciitis he's had for the past 4 months...I didn't realize he's been hampered for four months with this stuff.
So he ran the Olympic Trials on an injured foot?
He mentioned it in an interview with Flo the next day. he had tummy problems too. He wasn't able to fuel properly during the race. Or that's the story anyway. Go Ry Guy!
What kind of support staff does Ryan Hall have working with him? Is he getting to work with a physio/massage therapist/etc. every day? It seems like he may have pushed some of those people away from him thinking that they just facilitated in his overtraining with Mahon.
He works with John Ball out of Phoenix, Arizona

Ritz
When the USOT is held 8 months out from the Olympics and the average age is in the mid-30s, you probably have close to a 50% chance of one of the runners being injuried. With that said, running in the Olympics is such an incedible experience that unless Med/Hall/Adbi can't get out of bed on the morning of the race, they are going to line up. Athletes rarely admit they are incapable of performing and give up their spot. (I am not sure I can blame them.) For sponsors, it is a big deal for one of their athletes to be seen is a USA kit.
A lot countries have a 'show fitness' clause, whereby an athlete has to demonstrate they are ready to compete a few weeks out from the Olympics. Ryan Hall is such a stand up guy that if he's not ready, I can see him giving up his spot to Ritz.
John Ball is a baller. Heard he also works with big names like Solinsky among many other pros. Shout out to the sun devils (he ran at ASU)
USATF should require a "test race" (half marathon) 1 month before the games.
If Ritz is Healthier and faster than Hall, Abdi or Meb...then Ritz should be selected to run OG's.

You might as well require multiple trials. Ritz is already the alternate if someone drops out. Besides Ritz won't be doing marathon training a month out. He'll try to make the team in the 10k and if he does that's what he'll be training for.
He might actually run better without all the marathon training, and just goes in with great 10k shape. He was ready in Fall 2009 to pop one.
Ritz has made comments that say he agrees with you. I say all three run even if slighly injured but not if they know they won't be able to finish or can't give a decent effort. Who knows, chances of Ritz being injured again by then are pretty good so Gotcher may get a shot too. All speculation, of course, but that's what lets run is for.
Mens 10000 final is August 4th, Marathon August 12th. It is very possible for him to run both very well.
Alberto Salazar, the former American marathon record holder and a 10K standout before that, once claimed that the basic difference between training for the 10K and training for the marathon was the addition of the long run.

He ran a 10 second pr for 10k eight days before the duel in the sun at boston.
This what professional runners used to do "race frequently".
Ryan, please trust in God and start eating more natural wholesome organic foods and less Powerbars and Muscle Milks.
agreed that Ryan is seeing the best....as he said "Dr Ball saved my career". There's a reason folks fly in from all over just to see him. But lets be honest, pushing your body to its limits consistently will cause a few aches and pains. He's managed them very well, and had some great results with and without MTC. My guess is its something minor, but now is the time to get it looked at and taken care of before a big build for the Oly Games
Yeah, and do you know where Salazar's time from that race would land him at the 2012 Olympics? A place in the double digits, probably.
Why get an MR if you truly believe your coach will answer your prayers and heal you?

I didn't realize that the Bible says God will keep you injury free. I think he wants people to make their own choices and help themselves. He sorta just makes everything turn out alright in the end.
John Ball isn't anything special....many of the athletes he purported to 'help' went on to get surgery later anyway. Solinsky being a prime example.
What John Ball is good at is self-promoting. His techniques aren't anything all that special. Sorry to bust your bubble.

Yes, because Ritz would NEVER taking up an Olympic spot (that he earned, mind you) and race in an Olympics final, much less do so with a stress fracture and getting lapped multiple times in the process
Oh wait..
