It looks as if Michigan is now consistently at the bottom of Big Ten Track and Field. I have to admit I am both disheartened and baffled. Full disclosure: I ran for the the Maize and Blue during the glory years in the early 80s (Diemer, Meyer, Heikkenen, Donakowski). And while its not realistic to expect such consistent success at such a high level (the Willis, Brannen, Willis, Webb renaissance was nice) Michigan should expect to be compete for a Big Ten title every year, and to make some noise at a national level. For the last five years the program has accomplished nothing. Now they are just downright pathetic. What gives?
