This is a great idea for a thread. Why has no one thought of this before?

Don't be such a D. I wanna talk to Sampson, fly me to the moon like the b*tch Alice Kramden, cuz it's hard bein Black & gifted.
Ha ha, dude, you got some bone up your arse. Get some!
Assuming it's not at an acute stage, I would stretch the calf and soleus a lot. Ice. Self massage with oil and thumbs up and down the achilles. I've had a lot of luck with the TP Massage kit to roll out my ankle and soleus. Finally, the eccentric heel drops (or whatever they are called) can be very helpful.
Toilet paper massage?! WTF?
From my experience, the heel drops are key. I found I used to only do them when they didn't hurt and got into some pretty bad holes that way. The tendon repairs itself better if it's being worked properly, so even if it hurts you it's still essential to your recovery to do heel drops gallore.
Sampson,
As a practitioner of both I highly recommend the following two modalities, Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) and Posturology. Both modalities get to the root of the problem. MAT looks at muscle tightness and pain as a sypmtom of weakness. In your case it's quite possible that muscles on the anterior side of the ankle joint (anterior tibialis and your toe extensors to name a few) have weakened causing the gastroc and soleus to overwork and tighten up to protect the ankle joint and provide stability. Over time the soleus and gastroc get aggravated, sore and painful. A MAT specialist will be able to identify the actual weak culprits and reactivate them. This will allow the achilles to relax and heal. With posturology we are able to correct postural imbalances that cause uneven joint wear and muscle tension. The brain uses information from sensory receptors in the skin of the feet and the muscles of the eyes to organize posture. Unfortunately, the brain is like youtube and accepts any video. So if your feet are asymmetrical on the ground they send the brain asymmetrical information. The brain brain accepts it and organizes accordingly, asymmetrically. If the feet are asymmetrical there is no way the structure above it can be. Same with eyes. If they track asymmetrically it causes a head tilt, a shoulder tilt and rotation in order to keep the eyes level on the horizon. This causes shifts in posture that travel down to the feet. The feet adapt and resend so you have bad loop of information going round and round. One hip is higher, one shoulder higher, the pelvis is rotated etc, etc. This causes uneven joint wear, muscle tension and injury. Posturlogy is able to correct eye function and create a more symmetrical foot stance on the ground and dramatically and instantly improve posture and decrease pain. If you live in or around NYC give me a shout I'll be glad to help you. You can get more information at

I ve had Achilles tendinitis for nearly two years now. I ve home to numerous physios and spent a lot of cash on quick fixes.
I found the best cure us to take 4-6 weeks out of all sport.
Start off weeks 1-3 doing twin leg jumps landing on tippy toes in a cross cross fashion. Imagine jumping through a square grid!work this up to single leg jumps.
From weeks 3-6 start running from 5minutes and work up to twenty minutes by week six and keep doing jumps!
Best of luck with it!!
