+1 on junking Frees for the smell, not the loss of sole.
I never get more than 500 miles out of shoes. My Brooks T6s would make it to 500 without much trouble (T7s get a dirty, rigid upper sooner than that now).
I don't get how you got that much out of the Ghost 4 unless you're running in grass on them. I had a pair, have about the same figure as you, and wore them as a road shoe. The lugs in the sole wore out for me by about 150 miles and they're just the squishiest things ever now. They aren't desirable to wear.
I'm using mostly the Adidas Adizero Adios right now. This pair is over 250. I have holes in the mesh on the medial side of the big toe ball, but the upper holds well enough that it doesn't matter. My last pair got to around 300 before it just wasn't the same ride and this pair will continue to decline until I have to chuck it at around that.
I have records for my shoe mileage over the last several years. Across the board it's safe to say that the more minimal shoes lasted longer. Their feel and performance was less reliant on the cushion or any special features, so they lasted longer. All the trainers for me get tossed around 200ish due to just not being the same shoe I bought, whereas the minimal ones get 300-550.
I need to lose some weight so these things can start lasting longer.
