I got into running a little over a year ago and my friends and I have been thinking about starting a clothing brand made by runners for runners. I feel that the running industry does not have a brand that represents it. Instead, large companies make side brands to satisfy the running community. Thoughts?
You must be new to running. Who do you think started Nike? I believe it was a group of runners and coaches. adidas, New Balance, ASICS, etc. all have runners leading their running categories. Moving Comfort tried that "made for runners by runners" three decades ago.
You better be well financed, because it will take a lot of money to meet the minimums at the factories. If you believe runners will pay more for your product because they think a runner designed and manufactured it, you are naive. Runners are basically cheap.
Do your homework and check out the history of running brands gone south (Sub-4 is a prime example, Bill Rodgers Apparel, Frank Shorter Running Gear to name just a few).
