My girlfriend bestowed upon me a gift of Nike Free's; I took them out and they feel awesome but has anyone used these for long-term training?

Yes, a lot of people use the Nike free as an everyday trainer. I've been running in the 3.0 for a few years now and haven't had any shoe related issues. I'll warn you now however...your calves and feet may be pretty sore for the first couple weeks. Just keep running in them and you'll adapt to them.
Good shoe. I just wear it out too quickly. Couple hundred miles on Frees v 400+ on Lunaracers I currently use.
Have over 1100 miles on my Free Run +s and probably 400 on my 3.0s (use those for races and fast days).
Just bought a new pair of the Free Runs (for training). Love 'em.
I've been wearing the Free Runs now for couple years . Training and racing in them. Just make sure you give them a "break in" period. I recently started to rotate the Frees with the Puma Faas 300. In my opinion, very similar feel. Either way, right now I'm finding the combo working very well.

Free's what?
The one thing all the replies you have gotten so far are missing is finding out what you have been using all along.
They might be perfect for you ... or they may lead to shin splints, runner's knee and stress fractures.
I did one run in Frees (just one) and before the end of the run my knee was really swollen and I haven't been able to train with any consistency since. This was the middle of July. They may work for you, but be careful
Just make sure you take time to transition into them.
I didn't take any time to transition to them, but that was after training in lightweight trainers for a year. They're great shoes and actually pretty durable now. You can run in them more or less until you get bored, because the sole doesn't really wear out. I had a pair with 2000 miles that felt perfectly fine to run in, even with the massive tears in the sides.
