Any fellow Mort Foots out there try them? What did you think?

I am, but will never wear those things. You can find shoes if you want a shoe that allows your toes to splay. Get over your McD "On the Road" neurosis already.
VFs will not make you a better/faster runner. Running properly and often does that. Stop with the quick-fix mentality.
You got me figured out after just a few short sentences? WOW!
There is a better than fair chance that I am a more experienced runner and have a more impressive resume.
I'm sorry. It has nothing to do with your accomplishments. I have no doubt that you are a great runner.
My opinion/experience is that those shoes are not good and interest in them is largely fueled by McD's book (a great read, but not a training guide). There are
shoes that will yield a similar gain. NB Minimus has a zero-drop trail shoe. It has less drop that VFF, is thinner, and has a toe box designed to allow your toes to splay. Also, NB toe boxes, like Nike, have the extra length my Morton needs.
And by looking at the shoes (there are no retailers near me that carry VFFs) they will not accommodate the toe as they are sized. You may get away with buying a shoe 1/2 a size larger than you normally need. But, I am skeptical because of the problems I have had with shoes that didn't fit me properly.
Again, sorry about coming across as a jerk.
