Merga! Well, not the greatest, but he's pretty damned cool in a race.

Beat me to it. Go find the race on youtube where El G and Lagat both go 3:26. Lagat was in his yellow Puma kit with "LAGAT" across his chest.
I liked what Puma did in those days with their Kenyan contingent. They put the names of the guys right on their chests. We all complain now how it's so hard to follow what is going on in a race when it is a big train of identical Nike kits with a few Adidas greens mixed in. That was an attempt by Puma to get Westerners to know who the athletes were.
Gaston Roelants or Filbert Bayi.

Correction, Ngeny and Lagat went 1-3, respectively
And I agree. It was very cool of Puma to do that. Still amazes me that shoe companies haven't realized that athletes can wear a uniform and still be individuals. A name on a singlet goes a long way to getting fans to identify with the athletes. Bigger road races (you see this alot in elite fields too) sometimes allow people who register early enough to have personalized bib numbers. I can't tell you the difference in support I get when I'm out there running with my actual name on my chest as opposed to just a random number. Can you imagine the uproar if football jerseys didn't have names or numbers? Why can't we have that kind of personalization and identification with runners?.. Oh, b/c that would be a good thing for the sport. Got it..

I immediately thought of Maree as well, but the only photo I could find of him was wearing Reebok.
