Why are our most talented runners so injury prone?
I think Webb and Ritz have more talent than Solinsky and Rupp but Rupp and Solinsky are now better because they stay healthy

Staying healthy is a big part of talent.
Please define talent
Talent is a myth. There are a dozen guys on the team with more talent than me.

The innate ability to accomplish something that one attempts to accomplish.
I wonder if the wound from his surgery has healed yet. Last I heard he was running but having trouble getting the wound to heal...109 days until the marathon trials...time is running out if he's not healthy and training now.

26:48 is some kind of talent.

My question was actually directed at the OP. But by your definition, it is something that is applied after the fact to explain what must have been there. Interesting.

It is something that can be reasonably guessed at before the fact but only measured (and even then inexactly) upon seeing the results achieved through consistent, sustained effort.
If it is not this, what else could it possibly be? Would one suggest that someone has talent in dimension X even when they apply themselves toward the attainment of maximum achievement in said dimension for a sustained period of time and accomplish nothing?
maybe he pushed himself too hard when he was young. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to do exercises with ankle weights and hammer workouts all year round. Perhaps he compromised long long term success for short term success. But it still has always been a joy for me to watch him race and I hope to cheer him on again.
One could argue that Rupp and Ritz both were about equal in terms of High School talent. What has happened after is where it gets interesting.
Who?
W/O a medal DR is a Coulda Shoulda Woulda.

My point was that the idea of "talent" is a little silly because the word gets thrown around without people really defining it. The faster you run the more "talented" you are, that and there are many kinds of "talent", some more obvious than others but not necessarily better.
Ritz already has 2 medals from World Championships. 2 more than Rupp or Solinsky.
talks a good bit about a perspective on talent, comparing Sell to Ritz. Highlights a couple of different talents, not just everyone's favourite 'i dont have to do anything to run 2:10 or sub 13/27" type of talent.
Do you guys have to argue even the given concepts? I think you understand what is meant by talent & staying healthy. Alberto Salazar said in his group, incl himself, Webb was unanimously thought to be MORE TALENTED than the much HEALTHIER Rupp. The OP is on point- and you guys need to hire a tutor.
Okay does anyone have NEWS on Ritz? Stop arguing about talent, I wanna know if he's training or not.

Or we could just have different views than you.
12:56 is pretty talented. Maybe if he had stayed with the 5k and 10k, he would have been injury free. There are a lot of marathoners who disappeared pretty quickly from injuries.
It's too bad. He might have gone sub 12:50 or run something sub 27. But I guess we'll probably never know. He seems committed to the marathon no matter how much it breaks him down.
I personally wish him well and hope he runs well at the marathon but it's hard to see him with a chance in London since he has never run sub 2:10.
