Do compression socks actually help with recovery, and while running?

I just use the sleeves for recovery, they are fantastic after long runs, hard workouts, etc. Sometimes I also sleep with them before a race or workout. I have never used them during a run, but you certainly could. I had bad calf cramping for 7 years, it eventually become chronic; the sleeves cured this.
Socks and sleeves are for rich white dudes that have too much money. They are worthless exept for the placebo effect.

Really Doc? How do you feel about rest, icing, or elevation? How about Ibuprofen, another big hoax? I didn't need them when I was 14 either, but you might need them if you can still run in 30 years.
