How California cliche' is this?
Will there be prize money?
There is no prize money set yet for this year's event. The top three men and women will receive a plaque. The top three barefoot runners will receive a special award.

They're just confirming what we already know - that in the running world, barefoot runners are roughly comparable to women and people in wheelchairs.
I hope their "special award" is a pair of shoes, hahaha!
I would not be surprised if a barefooted runner won it. I am not sure why folks think they gotta wear shoes just cause Nike says so! I feel sorry for the poor Africans that come over here and have to run in gd shoes!! Slows the hell out of em!
I saw another race that had 'barefoot runner' awards. What's to stop anyone from stashing a pair of shoes a half mile in, jogging to them after the start and putting them on, then kicking them off a half mile from the finish? Why does running barefoot deserve a "special award" anyway? Don't barefoot runners go barefoot because they can allegedly run better without shoes? So why the Special Olympics treatment?
Why would anybody stash shoes and take the time to put em on so they can run more slowly? Shoes make folks slow and run all gimpy-like. Why do runners wear shoes? Answer: Cause all the famous runners, who are paid by shoe companies to wear shoes wear them? Good answer, Billy Bob! You are smarter than you look. I think they should give an award for the runners who wear shoes, oh, that is right, they already do. Last race I was in, every runner "was a winner!" Folks running 44:10 5k's took home the hardware! More trophies than runners is the new norm!
silverfox,
Q-What have you won?
A- none because only slow people run barefoot. But since we suck at running we go shoeless to try to be different and stand out.
I am glad you know my running history! guess you must know me. Great! Fastest future runners in the world have not worn shoes yet, but will when they have to. I have never seen a slow barefooted runner but am not from the big city.
