A remark in NWRunner magazine from 'Barefoot Ted' and his business partner Dan Fairbanks caught my attention. Here is the quote:
"the arch is one of the strongest constructions in nature, and that is why the very bottom of our frame is an arch. Support any part of a natural arch,, and you will weaken it, just like arch supports in traditional shoes weaken human arches."
It sounds great, rings true, etc. But what would an engineer say? Are the upswells in the arch area that I find in all of my shoes really counterproductive? Do they actually weaken the structure?
