I got the same problem. I strecth my hamstrings constantly and I also do pilates exercises that strengthen my lower back and abs. Also, if you can, try not to sit for long periods of time.
My sciatica was caused by an inflamed piriformis muscle. What finally did the trick was deep-tissue massage, the kind that feels like you're being mugged, and leaves you sore for a day after. Plus stretching my hamstrings and hip flexors.
