Does anyone else think that all the hate for minimal shoes is a bit too strong? Anyone that has read Running to the Top knows that Lydiard was a major proponent of minimal shoes. Vibrams are commonly worn by fat/out of shape hobby jogging suckers that want a quick fix for their ailments, so is a big reason why actual competitiive runners frown on minimal shoes just so they can distance themselves from the hobby joggers? Building up stronger feet seems like a good thing and lighter shoes certainly make you slightly faster, so why all the hate? Please note that I do think vibrams look ridiculous and I wouldn't wear them, but I do tend to do all of my running in super light flats or similarly minimal shoes (worked up to it over time and am quite injury resilient with relatively long bouts of high-ish, ie 80+ mpw, running). Thoughts?
