So what's the deal with Area 51? It intrigues me.

Clearly doesn't intrigue you that much. You could have read books about it or even Googled it, but you simply chose to come to Letsrun and start a thread about it.
Saw an interesting book on it recently at the bookstore.
It's a remote and secluded air base that is perfectly situated for testing aircraft (or I guess anything else) that you don't want to be seen. Start by being quite literally in the middle of nowhere (although Vegas isn't too far away), and then throw in mountains on all sides and an exclusion zone extending many miles around it, and you can see why it's a good place for hiding stuff, even when everybody knows the place exists.
There are no aliens or alien technology there, but you could argue some of the stuff they test is as close to alien tech as anything made on earth. The F117 still looks pretty damn wild even today, and it's a 30+ year old design. There has been speculation that the base isn't used much for top secret projects any more due to its relative fame (type area 51 into google maps and it'll take you directly to high res satellite imagery), but then again if you go to this site (http://www.dreamlandresort.com/) you can read about how they're still putting up new hangars and other buildings. Tons of other info there too, so knock yourself out.
If you want to take a look for yourself, the closest spot to see it is 26 miles to the east on top of Tikaboo peak. Easy day trip from Vegas, see here:

Note, you won't actually be able to see squat unless you're there early in the morning, have clear conditions, and some big ass optics. And even then you're not going to see anything secret because most of it flies at night and if they do decide to go during daylight they'll wait until your viewing conditions aren't so good.
But don't let that stop you from going. Most people would consider the Great Basin a vast, boring wasteland, but if you're keen on vast, open space, and beautiful, rugged remoteness you will have a good time. Just watch out for rattlers, and open range cattle.
Astronaut Musgrave just said he went as far as a man can go into the military and never saw any evidence of ET visiting US or of a government coverup. I think I would be inclined to believe a guy with his length of service as an astronaut.

Well he obviously wouldn't tell us if he knew their secrets!
