OUCH!!! Shit shit shit shit! Little bastards...OOOOOOH OUCH!!
ummmm what?
When I was doing 50 miles/week in December and January before I got injured (related to hill work, not the Piranhas) I would run on average 3 times in the Piranhas, averaging about a 6 mile run each time in them.
Felt great! Keep in mind I transitioned into lower heel-toe ratio shoes starting in the fall, so don't go overboard and try and running a bunch of miles in flats unless you are already doing decent mileage in similar shoes.
I have an older version, so I can't speak for the newer version of the Piranhas, but don't expect them to last for nearly as many miles as regular trainers.
I love them. I have done 100+ mile weeks consistently mostly (though not exclusively) in Piranhas.
One of my big issues with minimlaist shoes is that they break down easily. Worn out rubber can be resoled, but I find so often the uppers become looser and don't hold the foot over the shoe as well. The way the Piranhas are attached together seems to prevent that.
My original Piranhas got just over 1000 miles before I resoled them (sadly, I'm still heel striking). Now they are close to 2000 miles. Great shoes and excellent value for money at that kind of mileage.
My only issue with thme is that the heel to toe drop is more than I'd like. I much prefer the feel of the NB Minimus Trail which has less drop and fits like a glove, but they just feel heavy compared to the Piranhas. Now if we could somehow combine those two shoes... :)
wow thanks for the help. to Magnum Runner, I do think that I've been doing a good amount of running in flats. Over the past year and a half or so, all my runs have been done in one of the following shoes: asics gel ds racer, asics hyperspeed 3, nike free 3.0, nike zoom streak xc 2
...where's my foot flesh?
