I'm running a 5km road race but I don't own a pair of racing flats but I do have my XC spikes. Can I just take the spikes out or will this damage the sockets? Or could I just put studs in? Any ideas?

I don't think this will damage the shoe, but for me, personally, I think I'd much rather race in trainers than run a road race in an xc spike. Obviously, do not leave the pins/spikes in the shoe..
Just run in your trainers.
It depends on what they are. I used to run road races in saucony kilkennys with the spikes taken out because the holes in those shoes are recessed and the bottoms are rubber. They were basically the same as the spikeless kilkennys. If your spikes have a plastic plate or the holes aren't recessed at all, I wouldn't wear them.
they are nike zoom waffle XC V-somethings not sure if VI or VII or what ever. Do you think the holes would be recessed enough?
