If I use my running shoes when I ride my bike around(half hour a day/a couple times a week), will the shoes wear our significantly faster?

Cycling with running shoes is a horrible idea.
What you want on a bike is a shoe that is as stiff as possible, that is completely level (no heel drop), that protects you a bit better from the elements (read: wind) and that fits rather tight. Ideally, you clip in.
I always feel like running shoes wear down faster when I'm doing something other than running in them. But honestly, if you're a poor college student, just wear an old pair of running shoes and you'll be fine.
I know there are a lot of dumb things about biking and it's annoying how many things you need to buy, but you'll enjoy it more if you have cycling shoes and clipless (the kind you snap your shoes into) pedals.

And they last forever.
