Well, U of A seemed to be right there in the distance races most of us care about on Men's side.
5k AZ 1 &2
Oregon 4/8/9
1500 Oregon 1/7, U of A 2/3
10K Uof A 1, Ducks 5/7/8
Oregon may have it on points overall but U of A rules distance events
Not even close to a sweep if you don't win the 5k. Lalang, Sambu and Derrick would be laughing at you right now.
Not to mention Cory Primm, who won the 800...
And I just saw this from yesterday:
1 Stephen Sambu JR Arizona 28:57.72 10
2 Chris Derrick JR Stanford 29:19.90 8
3 Elliott Heath SR Stanford 29:20.24 6
4 Jake Riley SR Stanford 29:26.02 5
EXPLAIN YOURSELF.
I'd have to assume he's talking about team titles. Perhaps you should explain yourself?
I doubt the fool will explain himself since he can't even understand the poster's point. Oregon did win both the Men and Women's team titles with a mixture of distance/sprint and field event athletes. Either the guy is a total numbnuts or an Oregon hater. There is no cure for him other than to go through life in a self-perpetuating fog.
Put the Pac 10 in a real conference. . . say the Big 12 and see what the result is. . . Ducks my ass

Or, like the majority of posters here, he doesn't care about team titles.
You guys are always so quick to point out it's the other guy who doesn't understand! I/we understand it is about points and team titles in track & field. How many of the posters on LR are T&F non-distance? 1%, 5%,10%....?
Oregon pumps itself so much about distance running I was just pointing out that other teams, like U of A, actually outperform the Ducks many times. U of A always gets killed in the relays and sprints and hurdles. They got tired of finishing at bottom of Pac 10 and actually redirected their scholarships to throws, jumps and distance. Getting 3rd place men and second women's is an accomplishment. Nope, not first.
The normal tone on LR would be to ask "what's happened to Oregon distance running?"
Oregon is still good in distance. They aren't great. But when your going up against Stanford, Sambu, Lalang not many conferences would be able to put many guys in the top 5.
This is the IAAF report on the Pac 10 Championships:
http://www.iaaf.org/news/kind=100/newsid=60025.html
Oregon is actually doing decent as a sprint school now. But note what the IAAF report does NOT talk about: The fact is that hardly anyone gives a shit about long distance.
And also notice the USTFCCCA rankings. Going into the Pac-10, USC was ranked #7 and Oregon was ranked #20.
Oregon won't even be in the competition at NCAAs on the mens side. And even on the womens side, I expect them to slide on the razor thin margin over Arizona.
Print this your effing color print you Nike haters !

Anyone else notice that A.J. Acosta is looking pretty grim? I thought that race with Centro a few weeks ago might have been a fluke, but he looks like he might be done for the season...9:48 for a steeple is getting ugly.
Who's saying that they are going to do well at nats? You're right, they aren't and won't be in the mix. Who could be in the mix after loosing Wheating and Eaton. It's a rebuilding year for the ducks, and for a rebuilding year, I'd say winning a conference championship is pretty impressive.
Do people hate Oregon that much that they are willing to speak highly of foreigners smacking them in the distance events.
I always thought that letsrun had a higher level of racism than hatred for Oregon.
You are right, no one outside of the sport gives a damn about distance. My point was and is that LR posters do.
And whether a down year or a trend, I don't hate Oregon (though not my favorite by any means) I was just pointing out that the Wildcats were better in distance this year. One reason people may hate Oregon is that everytime someone points out someone else may be good, Duck fans get defensive.
Anyway, in Tucson the local columnist does give coverage to minor sports. Has done many columns on Lagatt and Abdi and the new runners too. This may be of interest to some:

129 pts at pac 10 and not in the competition at ncaa's on the men's side? is that reasonable? what if acosta recovers and performs up to last year's standard? berry's good enough to possibly take the 400m title. centrowitz and acosta should take big points.
but how about an american junior record of 11.03 for english gardner!! and probably costing herself a sub 11 by making the O sign at the finish. that's another possible world's qualifier.
Oregon racked up a ton of points in the Women's 100m, with ENGLISH GARDNER leading the way in 11.03
Meanwhile, the Arizona Women literally swept both the Shot and the Discus. In fact, they scored 31 points in the SHOT alone on the first day of competition with LaBonte breaking the Canadian National Record at 59-09.
Oregon and Arizona will do very very well at NC's.
And that's with the Ducks being without Alex Kosinksi and Brianne Theissen.
