I got a pair of the original color Matumbos (those red ones with the green flywire) for $10 at the Nike outlet store here in Oakland. My old spikes were way to small and before I shelled out $110 for a pair of Victory's at the running store in my town I went to the outlet store. I was willing to pay up to like $50 or $60. I found a size 12 Victory buy no right shoe with it. So I kept looking and happened upon these Matumbos. In short, best deal ever.
@ 7-8 years ago, Marshall's (discount store like TJ Maxx for anyone who doesn't know) had the new balance 831 in abundance for $19.99 on clearance. I bought 5 pairs over the course of a week. I loved those damned shoes so much, I just kept going back and snatching 'em up. Wish I would have bought 5 more. Got a lot of miles out of each pair to boot.
I worked in a sporting goods chain store selling shoes and went about 2 years without buying shoes. The reps would give me what I wanted. It was like having a shoe contract with every major company.

I used to buy shoes from a small company called Vitruvian Running (they are out of business now, I think). They only made three models, and I had used two of them. The owner of the company sent me a pair of the third model (the one I hadn't tried yet) to try and keep for free, completely out of the blue. They just showed up at my door.
