Who is Derek?
Right you are (it's late) I stand corrected - Derrick
27:23 - why not?

Because Derrick is no Ritzenhein / Rupp yet.
27:55.
I have thought for a long time that Derrick's ultimate best event would be the 10000m. Will be interesting to see, I say low 28s for this one considering the winning time won't be that much faster and he is still on the upswing from injury. Put him in Payton Jordan in a month or so and I would definitly be predicting in the 27s.

Correct, he ran 13:29 at age 18, compared to 13:37 (Rupp) and 13:44 (Ritzenhein)

Okay, but what did he run in HS? If we're basing it off HS times. Age is pretty good to a certain extent, but you really can't compare HS times to college times. Almost everyone makes a huge jump freshman year.
Derrick won 0 FLs to Dathan's two, couldn't compete with Dathan's records there. Dathan finished better at NCAA XC as a frosh, they placed comparably in the 5000m outdoors as freshmen (Dathan ran 13:27) and--and this is the most important one--Dathan ran his 27:38 in a more competitive race, in the same year that he beat RYAN HALL for the XC championship, and was a senior (maybe even a redshirt senior?) so he was older than Derrick regardless.

18 in college, 13:23 for Ritz just barely over 18 as a frosh, and Rupp had added the 3k/10k Jr records to his portfolio as well as a 2nd place in the 10k at NCAAs as an age 18 college frosh. Both > Derrick.

I'll say just sub-28, get outkicked by Elliott Heath
I think he'll beat Heath. I don't know if Heath has the legs for the 10K, but I don't see Heath breaking 28. I'd go 28:15 for Heath.

Ritz was 19 when he ran 13:27.xx as a college Freshman. He was born in December 1982 (Webb in January 1983). Derrick was 18 years old for his entire Freshman year (as was Fernandez who is now the Junior AR 5K record holder). His birthday is in the late fall, I think the first week of November.
Derrick October 17, 1990
Fernandez November 2, 1990
I dunno bout you guys but Christopher Derrick's 3rd place at NCAA XC will be in my memory for a long time. He's got good experiences under his belt, maybe more to come and Stanford, one might speculate, seems to be a great environment. Can he maintain good health long enough to emerge into his own particular strong suits? A tad worrisome. Certainly a compelling time. BUT I think that is what we're gonna see.
29:23
Why not?
And if Withrow was born a week later he would have had one less of those records.

People on this site are way too obsessed with age. Training age matters more than actual age. A might be older than B and slower than B but B has been training longer than A....get it? In the end, who really cares. There is no age division in college or world championship races or olympics.
