1600m 4:22. Even if he's 23 that's still a monster improvement considering he was away from running for 2 years.

Everytime this happens it makes me more and more weary that they actually go away for two years and do hardly any running. How do they go on 2 year missions, and come back and run like this. He was gone in 07 and 08? and came back and pr'd in everything basically in 09. If it was that easy, all runners should go away for 2 years and not do hardly any running! Why didn't anyone else think of that...
I'm partly joking....but they clearly go away to some top secret training camps. Only plausible explanation.
Gained 30 lbs from his missionary trip. Came back to BYU and was struggling to keep up with slowest guy. He went from that to 3:55. Nice.
And oh yea - a double major in exercise science and neuroscience with a perfect 4.0 GPA - looking to get into med school. Class Act with brains.
And Miles Batty's mom/coach/girlfriend makes a message board appearance...

Just goes to show how much more inherent ability counts for than training.

Of you could have read the article where is says exactly that....sorry to make you feel like an idiot.

obviously meant "or you" - he just didn't care enough to own you all-out. You still got metaphysically raped. quit trying to change the subject.

Balancing school and running is much easier when you don't drink alcohol or party in college
Keep an eye on this guy. He'll give Solinsky and others a challenge. Look at the history of runners out of BYU in the past. Padilla, Marsh, Cummings, Eyestone, Rohatinsky, Josh McAdams, Stephan Shay. They have a pretty decent program and he broke a 31 year old BYU record held, I think, by Doug Padilla. Maybe the 2 years off helps.
Although with their football program, if they do well, it's always because they have these older guys on the team. If they suck, it's always because of these same older guys that have just had a two year lay off.
Batty has been progressing the last two years, not many of us have been paying attention. He won the Mt. SAC 1500 last season in 3:42 while coming back from knee surgery. Places 15th at NCAA cross country in 2010. He opens indoor in Provo at altitude with a 4:04, runs a 1:48 converted time in New Mexico and then runs 4:00 with splits of 2:05-1:55 two weeks ago to win the first Washington meet. A late scratch puts him into the fast heat this week and he rolls 3:55.79. Well done.

Bahahahhahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha (deep breath in) Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Not a chance.
He's got a bigger aerobic engine then we'd like to believe.
Besides the fact that he trains at altitude already - he ran 25:01.6 @ 7200 feet for conference champs last fall, where he just sat on the leaders and opened up in the second half. If you've ever run in Laramie - you know it's no easy task as its one of the windiest spots in the nation.
Keep an eye out for bigger things. Definitely can't underestimate him with speed like that and an altitude background.
I don't understand how someone like Gabe Jennings can take what amounts to 9 months off... all the while staying in shape from biking... but can't come back from that hiatus.
Alan Webb can have a down year and finds it hard to come back.
Yet all these BYU guys do nothing for 2 years and don't have a problem. Its bizarre to me. Everyone who is out of the game for an extended period due to injury or whatever should go to Ed Eyestone and ask him to train them for the next 2 years. They'll be better then ever, apparently.
Gabe had hit a wall and was looking for something to revitalize his career when he took his time off. The same could be said for Webb when he had his down year. Neither of them we're planning on taking time off, but were forced to do so. Taking planned time off to focus on other aspects of one's life, as the BYU guys do, is not the same as taking time off due to injury or mental fatigue. It is also worth noting the many guys have great difficulty coming back from 2 years off and some never regain what they had before they left. The situation is not nearly as simplistic as you make it out to be.
There's a big difference between coming back from surgery (Webb) and coming back from annoying people for 2 years (BYU mission trips)
There's also a big difference taking time off during college and coming back to a team environment with lots of low-pressure races and a normal lifestyle.
For Jennings, Webb, Stember, any pro... coming back from a break into the limelight is isane. Just look at the hooplah surrounding Webb's last few races, including his own acknowledgement of the hype.
Props to Batty for the big improvement!
His time is equivalent to what Solinsky ran at the same meet last year. Not saying he's going to run all the same times that Solinsky ran last year, but it is encouraging that he will continue to have a breakout year.
Miles is a monster
apparently he hasn't been getting full training in lately cause pain or something in his foot and i heard he was sick and didnt run at the teams last meet.
i am excited to see you go 335 this year in the 1500 batty!

I actually know for a fact it was more like 12 pounds.
