Is that the same 2 mile that Lagat is in?
Yes, could you imagine, American record and high school record in the same race?
Who has said he's going for the 2 mile record? Him? Or speculation?
One of the hardest records on the books. Lukas will need all his ability to come together in order to break it.
Will he get lapped and set a record in the same race?
The NYRR, you know, the ones who run the meet and let him in.
The oldest high school distance record. Set in 1964! It turns 47 this year, hard to imagine that it would last this long. Lindgren was a STUD.
I'm a big fan, but this may be tough. Remember last summer when he went after German's record, went out around 417-18 and slowed to an 858? But I will be rooting for him to do it.
I'm rooting for him.
I also kinda think he is overdoing the pursuit of meaningless races in the dead of winter of his senior year in HS. This is kinda crazy or pointless if you ask me.
how is this pointless?
he is only running 4 meets so im pretty sure he isnt overdoing anything.
i hope he can do it! i think he will do better if he focuses on his own time, and there isn't a pack like last weekend. i think he didn't trust himself enough last weekend so he settled into the back.
That's a tough record, Gerry was a world class athlete when set the record.

Um, a little thing called the Invasion of Grenada limited the worldwide talent pool from appproaching this incredible record.
World class in the 60's isn't that relevant, I do agree it is a big stretch for him to get the record, if he does, then he'll be the 3rd best high school runner ever, after Ryun and Lindgren (in my opinion).
My take on it wrote:

Ummmmm...you mean 4th. Ryan, Egeland, then Lindgren...
Well according to the mcmillan calculator, 4:04 is worth an 8:40. So I gotta think it's possible for him. He has the mile PR, and probably the best endurance out of any of the recent high schoolers who have run 4:03-4:04ish recently. I gotta think it's within grasp, but it all depends how the race plays out for HIM. There's going to be a fast pace set and Lukas might not have many people to run with.
I'll bite - how did the invasion of Grenada protect Lindgren's record?
Not trying to be smart or anything but can someone tell me what record german broke in hs? I thought it was the national hs 2 mile record, obviously I m wrong but can someone please nicely explain thanks
Indoor 2 mile record, no outdoor. A lot of people believe Gerry's indoor record is stronger.
I think he could get it, especially since he ran 4:03.88 as a rust buster. It should be a better track than what Lindgren had as well.
