I have been wearing Ascis' DS Trainers for the past 13+ years. I have started having some physical issues and want to try a different shoe. My preference is to go to Brooks. What is the equivalent shoe?
Thanks.

Maybe the Ravenna?
Ravenna. If you want a more minimalist shoe the ST Racer is also similar but it is more of a racing flat.
Brooks Ravenna
Brooks Racer ST
Brooks Racer ST has quite a big heel offset. Should not be compared to the Asics DST.
shoe guy and skinny dan are right about the models to try.
Knowing what issues you are dealing with might help give more detailed recommendations.
I switched from the DS Trainer to the Ravenna and most of my achilles issues have gone away. The Ravenna forces you on to your forefoot a little bit and feels much the same as the Trainer
Brooks experts:
What about the Launch?
Well, the Launch doesn't fit the OP's requests, as he was asking a Brooks equivalent of the Asics DS-Trainer, which is a lightweight stability shoe.
I would say the Brooks Racer ST and Ravenna are the right answers... more Racer ST, less Ravenna.
When my friend got the Ravenna, the guy at the store told him it was the Brooks equivalent of the DS Trainer.
Seriously.
The Ravenna is 10.8 oz while the DS Trainer is 10.0 oz. Both are somewhat lighter stability-oriented shoes. For future reference, the New Balance 1190 will be available in June. It replaces the 905 and is signifantly improved. It will be 9.1 oz. It is very promising.
+1
exactly what i was going to post before clicking on the thread... Ravenna is a solid shoe
anyone test the ravenna 2 yet that is coming out in feb?
That's funny, because when I was looking for DS Trainer replacements, I bought the Launch and the Racer ST.I was just wondering how the Launch compared to the Ravenna. I just looked at Brooks website, and see the Ravenna is lightweight, but has more cushioning (with MoGo) and stability than the Launch.

Ravenna, but imo if you like one you wont like the other. The fit and feel are very different. The way the ravenna curves upward causes discomfort for me. I run in the ds by the way
I ran in the various DSTrainers for about 13 years. I switched to running in neutral, lightweight shoes (Banditos, Puma FAAS) about a year ago. I will NEVER go back to any kind of support-stability doodad training shoe. I keep an old pair of DST's in my truck in case I ever forget my shoes - last night I did. So I ran in the DST's first time in about 6 months. It felt very 'stiff' and unyeilding (I guess this is what shoe manufacturers refer to as 'ride'?) and I also felt like there was a block or something under my arch. I tossed the DSTs in the trash.
I used to train in the DS and also used the tangent for a while but now I'm sold on the NB 905. NB are really improving their line and this is one of their gems.
Crow with knife, would you please shut up. You are so cool. I switched to neutral shoes, and i'm never going back. Who cares? Seriously. I train in heavy stability shoes, and I guarantee if we ever raced, you would fake a hamstring issue.

Not to be a total wiseass, but if you're having physical issues in the DS-Trainer, why would you want to try something equivalent to it? Also, why would you have a preference for another brand before you knew what that brands options were? Finally, if you've been wearing a shoe for 13 years and it hasn't been an issue until now, what makes you so sure it's the shoe and not something else?
And to answer your question, everyone who said the Ravenna is pretty close. Brooks doesn't have a true equivalent but the Ravenna is about as close as it comes.
