With this barefoot craze going on it seams crazy that minimalist shoes are coming out that cost at minimum 70 buck and most are 100 or more that is not minimal to your pocket book. Why pay more for less technology and super thin rubber soles?

Who pays 70 bucks for shoes? Go to running warehouse, search for a promotional coupon, and enjoy 15-20% off their already cheaper prices on all brands except asics or mizuno. Oh, and there's free 2 day shipping.
And no, I don't work there or anything, I'm just a broke guy who likes the deals he gets there!
The minimalist market is in a growth stadium that's why the prices are high. But with bigger margins new companies will enter the market and as the competition gets stiffer prices will fall. Most likely since it's hard to differentiate a minimalist shoe. No added stability or cushion that you should pay extra for. It will come down to a decision whether to pay extra for the brand or not.
My minimalist shoes are 50 bucks. Don't know where you're buying them from
Doubtless there some marketing hype in play with the minimalist shoes.
OTOH sometimes less costs more. The cheapest S&W .38 is steel-framed, also the heaviest. Next is the aluminum, mid-priced and mid weight. The lightest is the titanium model, also the most expensive.
