Is the BCS a National Tragedy or a National Championships ?
Is the BCS a National Tragedy or a National Championships ?
A national joke !
A National Treasure (let's bury it).
Nat't Travesty
Where's the guy that always posts about how there is no national championship because the NCAA doesn't conduct the football post-season?
I look forward to his silly rant every year.

Because it is a valid argument. Glad I could answer your question for you.

OK, I'm an idiot and I misread your post. I thought you asked why it is that some guy always makes this post. So, I guess I didn't actually answer your question.
National Beauty Contest System
Two black QB's.
Progress of sorts.

All participating parties know the deal at the beginning of the season, if thats how they chose to decide their champion so be it.
Why should some observer rant and rail about how they decided to do it?
It would be like if outsiders started to critize how T&F choses the Oly athletes. All T&F athletes know they must race, they will not be selected based on their season, past performance, current ranking, etc..
BCA ? A fake show. Not a champs. What an incredible waste of effort and time. It's not even on TV. A mickey mouse cable show.
Beauty Contest System, East Coast Sports Writers, needs a Championship Bracket with Qualification by Conference & Top At Large Teams to Settle It On The Field, yada yada yada, you've heard all this before.
All the bowls are just alumni parties, similar to business conventions or expos. Great for local business and sports media hype, but meaningless sporting events, other than just figuring out who is better than whom out of those two teams in that particular bowl.
It's the absolute best system us far superior and intelligent presidents of major universities can come up with at this time while maintaining the sanctity of scholastics coming before God (who decides who wins anyway) and sports.
BCS is not sports. It's a Hollywood game show. The NCAA has no control. That's why it's not an NCAA NC.

But the NCAA does conduct a football post season. At the D-1 level even....Eastern Washington University beat Delaware 20-19 for the title.
The good ol' boy network of the BCS, ESPN and the various sponsors of the BCS bowls such as Tostitos will do anything and everything within their power to make sure that a bona-fide NCAA Division 1 Championship Football Tournament does not see the light of day. They make many millions of dollars from the lack of a tournament. If there were a tournament, the Rose Bowl ("Grandaddy of them all"), the Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and the Orange Bowl would all be completely meaningless exhibition games.
In the USA we pride ourselves on a culture in which equal opportunity and fair play is paramount. Look at every other sport that we hold dear: In the NFL, MLB, NBA, NCAA hoops, NHL and NCAA Track and XC, each one has a multi-round tournament format in which everyone knows the standard of entry and has an equal chance to make it to the top. There is no "glass ceiling" or "smoke filled room" where a few men with vested narrow interests decide who gets a chance and who doesn't.
I will not deny the fact that the SEC has an extremely strong football tradition, but to call Auburn the "Champion" simply because they won one post season game against another strong team doesn't mean that Boise State or TCU or Nevada or Wisconsin or Stanford could not beat them. The result of the "BCS" bowl is just that they beat Oregon. So what.
The only way things are going to change is:
(1) The colleges themselves reject the Bowl System by refusing invitations to the bowls.
or
(2) The fans refuse to attend or watch the bowls on TV.
or
(3) A grassroots effort of p.o.'ed fans from around the country descend on the NCAA office and DEMAND change.
Of course there is also the congressional/legalistic route. There is a movement afoot that is investigating the BCS for anti-trust. I am not a congressman or even a lawyer so I don't know how far this will go. I am hoping that my home state's sports-loving Majority Leader, Sen. Harry Reid, champions this cause.
We sports-loving Americans demand fair play and equal opportunity, and we are not currently getting that with the existing format of college football's post-season.
You do realize there is no NCAA National Champion? That is a fact. Check out
http://www.ncaa.com/history/football/fbs
and notice how they have to put who the selecting organization is for their "champion". It has never been the NCAA. So no NCAA national football champion. Not so hard.
As for all parties going in knowing the situation, what about 2003? USC was declared champion and it wasn't by the BCS. Seems like the system isn't so clear anymore.

The system is never clear when you have an "organization" to "select" the Champion.
A Championship is WON ON THE FIELD, COURT, COURSE or TRACK, not "selected" by an "organization."
