I am more or less a hobby jogger, but run in a big local 12K every year, usually finishing in the top 25 for my age group (out of approx 1500).
I have been doing intervals/tempos/longs faithfully all year, so decided that this year I wish to go all out & try to win my age group. Based on diligent study of past age group results, I believe I have a chance.
This of course means going for every possible edge, one of which is shoes. I run in Mizuno Precisions, which are about 10 oz. I like them, so I figure I will stick with Mizuno, but try to find something lighter & faster.
The Wave Universe is 3.7 oz. Would it be a mistake for me to make such a drastic change? Or should I get the Ronin, which is about 8 oz? Or even just stick with the tried & true Precision?
I do already run a few miles every week barefoot, if that is of significance. Whichever I get, I expect I would only use them enough to get used to them, and then on race day. I don't care about considerations such as durability, cost...only speed on race day, which is about 5 months away.
