My LunarRacer I shoes rub my achilles tendon area raw because they have no notch as do most shoes. It is so bad that I bloody my socks and shoes in any race over 5K, and it takes weeks to heal.
I like the shoes otherwise, so I want to cut a notch. I took them to a shoe repair shop, and they looked at me like I was crazy. Said they couldn't do it because it couldn't be stitched smoothly and would look bad. I said I didn't care how they look, function was the only important thing. They still refused because the cut edges would not be turned in, but protrude (the uppers are made inside out, then inverted before attaching to the soles- obviously impossible to revise once the shoe is finished). I suggested that the outer could be sliced to make the notch, and the soft sock liner pulled over the cut edge and glued down so there would be no exposed edge against skin. The guy said he understood what I was proposing, but that it would take time and money to do, and turned his back. Practically threw the shoes at me! I was astounded - did he think I didn't expect to pay for work done?
On reflection, this seems simple enough to do myself. So the reason I am posting is to ask:
1) what would be a good glue to use to adhere fabric to fabric? I intend to cut a notch in the upper in the achilles tendon area, but not the sock liner, then pull the sock liner over the cut edge and glue it down.
2) has anyone done this or any kind of shoe surgery, and did it work ok? Am I overlooking something?
