Got some NB MT101 off my amazon wish list, but I had never tried them out. I don't do much trail running, but figured they were light and had a decent-sized toebox.
Several weeks later, I've confirmed that these things hurt my feet. The rubberish band along the top of the foot-hole that runs just below the ankle hurts me on the outside of the ankle. I apparently have tendon running up-and-down just below where my ankle bone protrudes on the outer side of my foot.
I used a knife and cut out the rubber in the area that was being irritated, leaving just a small remnant of rubber which I cut with vertical slits. I also cut off the heels with a hacksaw because they were just too damn high.
The first trial run with my modified shoes was successful. No pain below my ankle. But naturally I'm concerned with longevity of the show with only midsole material on the heel.
Anybody have similar experiences modifying their running shoes?
