I tried to hold off as long as I could to register for today's race, because I didn't really want to do it if it was going to snow. When registration was closing on Wed, forecast was for snow today but not in the morning. $49 later, forecast changed to the snow starting the night before. There was over 3" accumulation this morning.
I tried to make the best of it and wore my Yak Trax. The first mile was on a road that had been plowed, and the Trax tend to slip on the hard surfaces. Most of the rest was on a soft running path, which was much better, and I caught up some, though it still feels heavy and awkward. I think a couple guys in front of me had XC spikes on. I'm thinking the ideal situation would be something like spring-loaded spikes that retract at least partially on hard surfaces and allow the rubber to grip. I haven't looked at spikes in 20 years, so don't know what the latest models are like. Recommendations?
