Style points bro.
So did American 800m runner James Robinson and 3000m/1500m runner Jan Merrill. They were the pioneers and should be getting royalties.
Trust me, compression socks didn't exist back then, exc. for diabetics and old people w/ circulatory problems. I believe Jan M. wore them to keep her calf muscles warm.
yes, and a garmin, sunglasses and carried those aerobic jelly beans.

juantorena wore straight-up striped tube socks. back then, guys with long legs looked better in tube socks, along with those one inch inseam track shorts.

Juantorena is awesome, and even more so for the tube socks.
Has anyone even attempted the 400/800 double at the international level since then?

Would have been the second best performer on 2010 world lists. 2nd in 2009 3rd in 2008 and 4th in 2007 and 2006.
Amazing. Anyone running around 44 & 1/4 today probably thinks (and for good reason) that running and training for the 800 doesn't make much sense for them. Certainly there are a few 400 runners that could do it and maybe go as low as 1:43 but it seems running closer to 44 in the 400 would pay off better for them.
Although I heard the Borlee brothers may make the move up to 800. But their PR’s are a good ½ sec. slower than Alberto’s so maybe they have a bit more incentive if they don’t start improving in the 400.
