Has anyone out there raced in the Newton racing flats? How are they? Any problems?
They are more expensive than other shoes, and apparently do wear out quickly, so before dropping $160, I'd be interested in knowing how they are.

#1) cost $10 to $20 or less;
#2) fit well, no binding or constriction;
#3) will last 500 to 1000 miles or longer;
#4) weigh 7-8oz or less for racing shoes, 10-12oz for training shoes
on point #3) Newtons will last 500-1000 miles longer than most racing flats?
Those are my criteria for running shoes.
Apparently, newton shoes meet none of the criteria.
They are great shoes but not worth the price. If your rich then ya you can buy them, otherwise get something else. I got some for free and they are about my 2nd favorite shoe, but i didn't like them enough to buy some more.

So essentially you run in a pair of Thorlo socks. Nice.
Oh man, stay the heck away from those things. I'm a forefoot striker and these were the worst "shoes" I ever tried. Horrible traction on wet days or on trails, going downhill you almost topple over and they are extremely uncomfortable.
You've been warned.
If your technique is solid fore/midfoot then yes, they can last for a very long time. I have a pair of the Gravity trainers with 700+ miles on them and another with about 550 miles. Macroeconomics. Of course if you only want to pay $10, $20 or less as our buddy above, you're SOL on pretty much anything.

Feelings are mixed. Price is an issue, however, the Momentus is priced at $139.99,pretty standard for high end shoe these days.
If you are a forefoot striker they do feel nice in regards to impact on the forefoot. It feels like wearing track spikes on the road, cool and unusual feeling. However they are wobbly and unstable due to the lugs. (maybe wearing a power balance bracelet will fix that) JK. As for wear, they actually feel better after a lot of miles because the lugs compress more easily. In the end I give them a "don't buy" unless you have enough cash for a back up pair of shoes, or are a Triathlete and need them to fit in with your club.
You actually can find racing shoes for $20 or less? Where? What are they?
