Asics Hyperspeed is my shoe, love it, but it is not so great in winter with those holes in the bottom that let in the snow melt. Suggestions for something comparable to use in the winter?

How about this winter you grow a pair instead?
I have an excellent pair already, thank you. They don't keep my feet dry though. Now crawl back into your hole.
Sorry but I don't swing that way.
Mizuno Wave Universe for a super light shoe. (wouldn't train too much in it, just a great racing flat) or the Mizuno Musha.
I'd recommend the Brooks Green Silence. Solid construction and decent traction. Personally I train in the T6s, but the past 2 winters have been brutal on them (~the upper mesh near the toe seam tears on every pair). The T5s was a more durable shoe, but neither the T5s or T6s provide great traction on snow and ice. You might also consider some of the lightweight New Balance trail shoes like the new 101's. I alternated with a pair of 790's (icier days), and they were excellent winter shoes. I even drilled screws into them for added traction. I'd also suggest the Saucony Kilkenny's for something even more minimal but great traction.
Just go with Nike Streak XCs, whatever the current version is. I've been doing about 3k miles a year in them for a couple years now. I still have a pair of 2s but I think there's a third one out. Light but they fit well and they stay pretty dry. I run sockless too. Also, they're made for xc so they're pretty grippy on slippery stuff.
pull out the insole and put a piece of duct tape inside over the holes... Poof, no leaks
I'll give that a try, thanks!
Or take a glue gun and fill the holes in. You can also do it with Shoe Goo.
