When will people realize that Garmins aren't perfect? They measure from point to point which means when you run around a track, bend, corners or whatever it is not going to be 100% accurate. Also, when the satelite picks up my Garmin the closest I have seen the signal is about 15ft.
Not close enough, return it and tell them you want a new one.
they are always a little off on tracks. good thing you know how far it is around a track
did you run on the inside line? if not it may be closer to exactly 1.00
I have a 405cx and it is often very inaccurate on tracks. Sometimes is is dead on to the hundreth and sometimes it is off by a hundred meters.
There has been a discussion of this on the boards - you might want to take a look at it. The general feeling is that the tight curves confuse the machine.
How can you trust anyone, or anything, after this disturbing experience?
Did you run a mile or 1600 meters? Either way it's out by at leat 4% which is very bad.
My Garmin showed that my elevation increased and decreased by 4 meters in a mile. The track seemed pretty flat to me.
Was that for 1 lap, or 4?
Is 1.04 miles the new "full mile"?
The GPS signal itself has error built into it.
Unless you have military grade equipment, it has approximately 4% error

This is false. Selective Availability was terminated in 2000.
GPS signals are not accurate to more than a yard or two. The FAA and Navy each have systems that augment GPS to provide more accurate navigation.
EVERY marathon I have ever run has been long according to my Garmin! Boston, Chicago, New York...all of them are too long! I've e-mailed race directors, gone on message boards...no one wants to fix this problem! If I'm going to drop $150 on a race I want an accurate course and they can't give it to me. In fact, now that I think about it, every race I have ever run has been long. I think Garmin should be in charge of measuring courses instead of these fools.
Because there is no way that the track is off by .01.
