Tried these on at the Columbus Marathon expo. They fit very similar to the PUMA Road Racer. Honestly, they feel pretty amazing. Great low profile trainer or race/tempo option.
They look pretty interesting. I use the T6 and the Nike Frees sometimes. Do they feel similar to those?
More substantial than either the T6 or Free in my opinion. Honestly I would suggest trying them on-- they feel great.
How are the Puma Road Racers? I notice RW is now carrying them. I'm curious as to how they'd compare to my daily shoes - the Musha IIs.
I've gone through 3 pairs of the Road Racers as trainers. Great, soft, flexible ride. Never tried the Musha, but I would be wary of the wave plate adding stiffness.
first off, you took my name, sort of.
i just ran in these today. I like them. They are really "well-balanced" i found the heel to toe drop perfect. A lot of the cushioning removed from a regular shoe came out of the heel and midfoot, which is good because it they still protect the forefoot.
They have a firmness to them as well which I like as opposed to the squishy spring of the lunar racers or frees. I think the kinvaras from saucony and the green silence might also feel "squishy".
The upper fits really well. A little narrow, but not nike narrow (aka Nike Streaks). I had room in the toe box, but not too much room that it felt baggy (Asics Hyperspeeds).
My only complaint, which is only a sort of complaint, is that they are very minimal at 7oz or so I couldn't wear them for every run. A little more protection in the all around would be nice on longer runs than it couuld be an every day trainer. Additionaly at 7oz I'd rather wear a nike streak which is maybe .5 oz lighter and has a bit more flex and more responsive.
So I'd describe it as a tweener shoe. Not quite tempo workout for me, and not quite every day trainer, but still great.
What's the difference between there and the Roadracer? They weigh the same, but RW calls the Roadracer a 3k-10k shoe, and the Faas a 1/2-marathon shoe. A little more structure and stiffness in the Faas?
i'm not sure where you found your RW descriptions but running warehouse and roadrunner sports describe them as
Fass
RW "Great for tempo runs, racing and even everyday running."
Road Racer
RW "this racer offers runners a soft material lining in the tounge and heel collar that allows it to be worn sockless during 5k or 10k races."
RR "It is designed to be a lightweight shoe for a 5k, a marathon, or any distance in between."
RR lists them at 9.0 oz but I don't think that's right. Anyway, I've never worn the road racer but the Faas has a somewhat firm or less soft outsole compared to my other flats so I think it would tend to get less compressed in a longer race and protect your feet better.
Are they as firm as the Adios or a little bit softer than that? Are they more minimal than the Pearl Izumi Streak or less minimal?
thanx for the feedback - it's not too often you hear of Puma fans. I may give the road racer a shot. I don't do too well in super-soft shoes like the Kinvara, but the road racer just looks exactly like you describe it. Any other shoes you could compare its softness to?
Since I really haven't worn the T6 to run in, the only real comparison I have is the T3 which I put a couple hundred miles in several years ago. So personally I would say a more substantial T3. But its been awhile so that may not be entirely accurate.
Wow, looks like Road Runner is loving the 300--

The Faas series will have a 250 (lighter than the 300) and a 500 (more shoe than the 300) coming out in Feb of 2011. After that they plan to put in more shoes in the "silo" (something like a 200 and 400). It is an interesting platform they have developed and a great feeling shoe. Something worth checking out.
It used to be the Pegasus 2000, but the Faas500 is my new fav shoe ever.
The 300 has the same midsole/outsole as the Roadracer, with a different upper.
The 250 is the same, with yet another upper.
Wear tests around the shop have a large majority giving thumbs up to all of the above, and to the 400 and 500 as well. And these are from people who are recreational jogger to 1:04 half marathon to 9:49 steeple (female) to 37 minute 10K old dudes.
I have a pair of Puma FAAS 400's (wear test shoes from Puma). I am loving these shoes. They're definitely not as light as, say, the T6 (8.3ounces) but they are neutral and feel very, very cushioned for such a lightweight shoe. My other training shoe is the ASICS Banditos which weigh about the same but are light years from this shoe in terms of comfort. I will definitely be buying the 400's when they come out. The 3's are an older version maybe.
I think you mean the 500. I too got a sample pair and they are shweet.
No. 400's. Got over 300 miles on them now. They are still super-cushioned. I'd love to know what the heel-to-toe drop on them is.
