I have been very injury prone in the past and am coming off of a bout with ITBS. I have done a lot of research and am pretty convinced that implementing a serious hip/glute/core strengthening routine could greatly improve my injury resistance, so I have started doing lots of strengthening. I have also read a lot about the case for minimalist footwear in order to strengthen under utilised muscles, especially smaller ones in the lower legs and feet. I am far too injury prone to consider shifting into minimalist shoes for training at this point (and I am barely even running right now due to injury), but I was tossing around the idea of getting a pair of highly minimalist shoes and wearing them for walking around everyday. I am a college student so I do a ton of walking just around campus, and I feel like doing so "barefoot" could have huge rewards over time with no risk of injury, and help perhaps prepare me for minimalist running in a year or two. Would buying a pair of minimalist running shoes just for walking around help me in the long run? Or do I really have to be running to get any of the "barefoot" benefits?
