It never ceases to strike me how ugly Salazar was as a runner. Yet that was a pretty amazing run by him front running for so long. In fact I think Salazar and maybe Centrowitz showed the ability in that video to have done what Ritzenheim did in Zurich last fall if put in the same situation. And that was in 1982. Goes to show how stupid it is that people think today's American distance runners are doping when all they are doing is getting slightly ahead of where elite American distance runners were a quarter of a century ago.
Did you think Matt had 2 to 4 seconds left in him since he looked like he was just cruising until he picked his spot. Is it unrealistic to think he was close to WR shape?
Not at all really, he was looking around with time to go.
Was clearly going ton win that one and set AR.
I also agree is it that amazing that guys are running 14 seconds faster than guys like Matt did 28 years ago, when the world record went down by almost 30+.
That is the gap. However no one is running 12:40 today, hard to believe? Hmmmm, not really. testing will do that to a sport, see baseball back to reality in HR totals by guys.
What are you trying to say? A world record doesn't get broken for awhile and therefore athletes in that event were on roids when they set it? Bob Beamon was doping then, right?

Who were the two announcers in this race?
There was amazing depth in that race, outstanding running.
1982
10. 13:11.93 Alberto Salazar Stockholm 1982-07-06
13. 13:12.91 Matt Centrowitz Eugene 1982-06-05
16. 13:14.80 Bill McChesney Zürich 1982-08-18
20. 13:15.44 Doug Padilla Helsinki 1985-07-04
25. 13:18.19 Ralph King Eugene 1982-06-05
35. 13:19.62 Paul Cummings Eugene 1982-06-05
U.S. list place as of 2009
I'm not sure what Salazar's time was. Maybe he broke the previous AR too.
Ralph WHO ???

Interesting that as of now Rupp is just over a second ahead of Salazars best. Also interesting to note that Rupp's next race will be the same venue Salazar set that mark and he'll be looking to put another 10+ seconds on that.
Last note, the top 3 on that list were Oregon runners under Dellinger. That's like having seniors and guys a year out of college running 12:56-12:58 now.
I didn't get to the race yet and:
Look at the people in the stands.
They named all the runners in the race and listed their PR's in the graphics.
The announcer sounds better before the race even got started.
NBC, ESPN watch these videos!!!
I beleive Ralph King ran second (13:20 or so?) when Moorcroft soloed his 13:00.
Surprisingly one of the announcers was none other than NBC's own Larry Rawson. Other than throwing out his catchphrase, "go down to your local high school track and see if you can run just ONE 64 second quarter," line it was very well done. What's changed Larry? Bring back your old style. Your friend can come too!
That is only the first 8 minutes of the race
link to finish please
The other half is the first link on the side bar for recommended videos. Usually when a video has "Part 1" in the title (like this one) there is a "Part 2" in the side bar.
Alberto didn't seem to mind being an (excellent) rabbit). He was helping other runners even back then. Goes against the Letsrun "Dr.Evil" portrayal on these boards by little puds who never contributed anything more than vitriol to the sport.
Larry Rawson on Beatty breaking 14: "You'd think it was the second coming of (oh, I've f***ed this up, how to I finish this)of getting into heaven for nothing."
What does that mean??
Great vid, though!
