Riley Masters will be transfering to IU this fall. What a sick 4xmile they will have with Bayer, Masters, Hubers and Turner.

Where is the proof?
I wish the best for Riley if this is true. Hopefully Helmer can figure out to keep these guys healthy long enough to make an impact at NCAAs outdoor.
Is he leaving Maine?
no, he will be studying abroad in bloomington
But really, can anyone confirm this. I checked the IU website this morning, and there was no information at all. This would be big for IU's cross country season, in all likelihood, and obviously for their track team during indoor (DMR and individually) as well as outdoor.
not sure he'd make a huge difference in their XC team. track yes.
Yeah, I jumped the gun a bit on XC, his times in the longer events aren't anything to get overly excited about. But I'd say he's the biggest news item in terms of transfers of the year (assuming that this is actually true). [quote]guy who is just saying wrote:
He should stay with Lech in Maine. Mark helped him to reach this level. This guy was a 4:20 miler in HS and now is a sub 4 man. You think that happens just because he wants it to? This guy has GREAT coaching in Maine and I hope this is not true.
I can say, for a fact, Riley is staying up at Maine.
Heard the same last week.
I hope he stays in Maine. After watching his times ever scenes he was a junior in high school, it seem that U Maine has work out good for him, why take the risk of changing when hes doing great as is.
great coaching? more like great genetics, he has talent, not many people can run sub 4 by running like 50 miles a week or whatever he says he does, thats like decent high school training which gets most of us in shape to run about a 4:20 mile. if the coach is so good at maine then where the hell is the rest of the team?
pretty sure he coached Erik Nedeau as well.
I've met him a few times and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would leave maine...i hope he stays.

Well you have to realize that this is U Maine, not a school known for its running, so great talent that comes is not very common and is generally from Maine. Also, they had a very young team last year with a large majority of the distance team being freshmen and sophomore. So obviously a school that doesn't attract much talent isn't going to be sending multiple people to ncaa nationals or be cranking out sub 4 milers left and right.
Umaine sucks.
He will transfer after the first semester.

And how are the Amherst guys doing?
Um, quite well. They had a guy under 30 in the 10k this year as well as a handful of the fastest milers in DIII. None of them run at Masters' (or Ned's) level, sure, but Nedeau does a pretty good job.

runinto --- both genetics and coaching. mark lech knows more about the sport than most D 1 coaches. maine , like so many schools, does not fund minor sports very well. athletes go to maine to play hockey. without knowing specifics, i think masters should stay there. coaching won't get better with helmer.
What does that have to do with anything?
The point was, Nedeau was an exceptional miler when Lech coached him.
